At our community information sessions in July, we shared details about the Junction Rivers Community Benefit Fund, which will kick off once the project is approved and operational.

Building on the success of our $60,000 pilot fund launched in February 2023, we've designed the full-scale fund based on valuable feedback from the community.

Here's how the fund will be structured to bring lasting benefits to the region:

  1. Community Benefit Fund: We’re committing $525 per megawatt (MW) each year, which could amount to around $300,000 to $400,000* annually based on the current project design, to support local sponsorships, donations, and partnerships.
  2. Voluntary Planning Agreement: Around $600,000 to $750,000* per year—$1,050 per MW—will be shared evenly between Balranald Shire and Murray River Councils, helping them roll out sustainable development projects that benefit local communities.
  3. First Nations Community Benefit Fund: This stream will offer $525 per MW annually, totalling around $300,000 to $400,000*, to drive long-term economic growth, education, health, and environmental initiatives for First Nations communities.

* Estimated annual funds are based on current project design.

The full-scale fund will launch once we hit financial close and get all the necessary approvals, with final contributions depending on the project’s approved capacity.

We're excited to see the positive impact this will have on our region!
