The proposed Burrawong Wind Farm reached a significant milestone after the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (the Department) issued Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the project in December 2021.
The project, located about 15 km south of Balranald, is being developed by Windlab, an Australian renewable energy company. Windlab’s General Manager Development, Dr Nathan Steggel, stated: “We would like to thank all of the residents and businesses that have participated in consultation to-date and we are eager to continue engaging and finding innovative ways that the community and region can benefit from this exciting project.”
As part of ongoing consultation, Windlab is establishing the Burrawong Wind Farm Community Consultative Committee. The Department recently appointed Darryl Watkins as independent Chair of the Committee.
“We look forward to working with Darryl who was selected for his extensive experience in stakeholder and community consultation and an understanding of the regulatory requirements for State significant projects. These are key skills for such a project,” Dr Steggel said.
Applications close on 3 April 2022 and Windlab encourages people who are passionate about representing and acting in the interests of the Balranald and Kyalite communities to apply.
